From Land To Sea is A mobile laboratory facility providing tools and expertise to investigate threatened archaeological landscapes, focusing on bridging the artificial divide between terrestrial, wetland and marine landscapes, for researchers, communities and heritage professionals.

Why is it needed?

Difficult to access archaeological landscapes (e.g. wetlands, coastal shelf, inter-tidal and lacustrine zones) face increasing threats from human development and the effects of climate change. These threats are global, including off-shore windfarm construction, coastal erosion and dewatering. Emerging technologies offer opportunities to characterize and interpret these landscapes before they are lost forever.

What does the Facility Offer?

It provides access to agile, easily transportable, cost-effective prospection equipment that can be rapidly deployed in a wide range of environments, in the UK and internationally. It champions prospection in locations where information on human use and adaptation is currently lacking and integrates equipment, training and expertise to increase capacity and build a user community.

You can access the Facility for your research through the RICHeS Access Fund!

Funding rounds occur twice annually closing in April and October respectively. You can apply through the RICHeS Catalogue, and can find more information at: https://www.riches.ukri.org/funding/riches-access-fund/
